EAST LANSING -- Nebraska coach Bo Pelini once again has a parting shot at the Michigan State defense after a loss to the Spartans.

On the Big Ten coaches teleconference Tuesday, Pelini accused the Michigan State defense of clapping to disrupt Nebraska's snap count in Saturday's game. The Cornhuskers were called for three pre-snap penalties, two false starts and a delay of game.

Pelini said by clapping, the Michigan State defense violated NCAA rules.

"That's something I'll talk to the league office about," Pelini said.

The NCAA rulebook states that "no player shall use words or signals that disconcert opponents when they are preparing to put the ball in play. No player may call defensive signals that simulate the sound or cadence of (or otherwise interfere with) offensive starting signals."

Spartans coach Mark Dantonio doesn't dispute that his defense claps before plays, but said it does so to move personnel and doesn't violate rules. He said it is one of several tactics his team uses pre-snap.
"We're moving our people," Dantonio said. "From my perspective, we have the opportunity to move our people any way we want to move them."

Dantonio even offered a suggestion to the Nebraska center.

"In an environment like we had here, he has to look at the quarterback I guess," Dantonio said. "I don't know."
Last year after losing to Michigan State, Pelini said of the Spartans' defense: "We've run on them before and we'll run on them again." Spartans players said the comment motivated them leading up to this week's game.
