BOBBY J NAMED NMU D-LINE COACH . . . . AGAIN
Bob Jurasin was hired as Northern Michigan's defensive line coach in January 2017.
Jurasin spent 12 seasons as a defensive lineman in the Canadian Football League. From 1986 to 1997, he played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In 1989, he helped the underdog Roughriders, who finished third in the Western Conference, win the Grey Cup.
Saskatchewan topped the Calgary Stampeders, 33-26, and dispatched the Edmonton Eskimos, 32-21, to reach the Grey Cup game. There, the Roughriders knocked off the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 43-40, on a last-second field goal.
Jurasin spent one season with the Toronto Argonauts before retiring in 1999. A four-time CFL all-star, he ranks first in Saskatchewan's and third in the CFL's history with 142 career sacks.
Jurasin has been inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (1995), the Northern Michigan Sports Hall of Fame (1998), the Roughriders' Plaza of Honor (2002), the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame (2005) and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame (2006).
Before embarking on his professional career, Jurasin played for Northern Michigan from 1982 to 1985. As a senior, he was voted as the team's Most Valuable Defensive Lineman.
Jurasin previously served on the Wildcat football staff from 1999 to 2006 as a defensive line and strength and conditioning coach. In 2014, he volunteered at Finlandia, where he worked with the defensive line.
Jurasin and his wife of 33 years, Carrie, have five children: Bob Jr., Katie, Dylan, Wyatt and Dorianna.
