Obituary for William A. "Billy" Blohm
MARQUETTE, MI - William A. (“Billy”) Blohm, age 57, died December 21, 2017 at The Lighthouse (formerly Mather Nursing Center) in Ishpeming, MI. Billy was born in Marquette, MI on October 17, 1960 to Lauren (“Larry”) and Elizabeth (“Betty”) Blohm. He was raised in Marquette and graduated from Marquette Senior High School in the class of 1978. He attended Northern Michigan University (“NMU”) and took great pride in having been the student manager of the 1991 national champion NMU hockey team.
Billy was the fourth of five siblings: Jo DeRoche (Big Bay and Marquette), June Swanson (Big Bay and Marquette), the late Warren Charles (“Chuck”) Blohm (Shoreview, MN) and Larry Blohm (Calumet, MI).
Bill’s mother, Betty Moore, lives in Calumet, MI. He was predeceased by his father and brother Chuck. He is survived by his other siblings and Chuck’s wife Peggy Darmody (Shoreview, MN). Billy also leaves behind two nieces: Jasmine (Chris) Schmidt (Milwaukee, WI), Janet (Brian) Anderson (Marquette, MI), and a nephew Jason (Amanda) Swanson. He also is survived by great nieces and nephews: Claire and Jacob Anderson of Marquette, Hannah and Micah Schmidt of Milwaukee, and Boden Swanson of Marquette.
Billy was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and NMU sports teams, most especially hockey. He worked for many years in the news room at WLUC TV6. For several years he also worked for Radio 970 ESPN WZAM.
He enjoyed playing golf until his health prohibited that activity and he loved spending time with family and his many close friends.
At Billy’s request, no funeral will be held. However, a celebration of Billy’s life is being planned for April 14, 2018, at the American Legion Hall, 700 W. Bluff Street, Marquette, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Questions may be referred to Maggie Mahoney at MVPMaggie@msn.com
