Brett Goldberg met with residents at Blackrocks Brewery in Marquette and bought them beers after TickPick snubbed the U.P. on Facebook and its website

TickPick's Brett Goldberg wanted to make things right with the Upper Peninsula of Michigan after what happened over the past 48 hours.
So the co-founder and co-CEO of the New York-based events tickets website flew to the Upper Peninsula tonight to meet with residents at Blackrocks Brewery in Marquette. Goldberg, who had never been to the U.P. before, covered drinks for everyone in attendance to express TickPick's appreciation for the Upper Peninsula.
"This is a lot better than I was expecting; I was very nervous coming here, understandably," Goldberg told Marquette's CarlsonMedia on Facebook Live.
Goldberg had to issue a lengthy apology after TickPick - founded in 2011 as an alternative to secondary ticket markets such as StubHub - left the U.P. off the interactive map on its website, then responded to residents on its Facebook page saying it "got the important part of Michigan" and that the U.P. is "just a bunch of forests."
The comments triggered a social media firestorm from angry Yoopers, demanding an apology and respect for the Upper Peninsula. Others left one-star reviews on TickPick's Facebook page, dropping its overall rating to below two stars.
In a statement, Goldberg provided an action plan on how the company will handle this situation going forward, including a pledge to put the U.P. back on its map and a 10% sale offer on TickPick's website using the promo code YOOPERS (expires July 4).
Oh, and he flew to the U.P. on the same day, flying into Escanaba from Detroit Metro Airport, to meet its residents.
"There were a lot of reviews, some people said very mean things, and that's understandable," Goldberg told CarlsonMedia. "They were offended, and I get it, which is why I made the gesture to come out here. It looks like people came out in numbers."
They did.
Blackrocks Brewery was packed with patrons tonight to meet Goldberg - some who likely were wondering if Goldberg, who lives in New York, would actually keep his word and show up.
He did. Goldberg tasted the beer at Blackrocks, met with employees behind the counter and even tried on some Upper Peninsula swag, including a cap from Stormy Kromer, a family-run retail company in Ironwood.
"A guy made a mistake, and this is just us showing as a company that we're willing to make things right," Goldberg said.
The full statement by Goldberg from earlier today:
My name is Brett Goldberg and I am the Co-CEO and Co-Founder of TickPick. To say one of our customer support team members handled the initial outreach improperly would be an understatement. I'd like to apologize to the first person who reached out to us and was seriously just trying to help us. Now I am sincerely sorry to everyone else who was offended by this. When I was just showed the comments that one of our representative wrote I was shocked and appalled as well. Yes this person thought they were being funny: they were not.
Here's how we are addressing the issue:
1. Once management found out about the issue we addressed the map.
2. I personally am going to take the time to post a response to every negative review to show our sincere apologies for this mistake.
3. We're going to have a company wide meeting to create guidelines and rules so that nothing like this ever happens here again at TickPick.
4. We've engaged a PR firm to further ensure that we are taking all the right steps to make this wrong right.
5. We make 10% on a sale, we have gone ahead and created a promo code for 10% off, just use the code YOOPERS (expires 7/4/17).
6. I am encouraging people to respond to me directly at brett@tickpick.com or support@tickpick.com to provide feedback to let us know what else we can do to make this right.
