HOW TO WIN FRIENDS
& INFLUENCE PEOPLE BY BOBBY KNIGHT
Republican nominee Donald Trump made a couple of stops in Michigan, first in Grand Rapids. Introducing Trump at the rally was Hall of Fame basketball coach Bobby Knight, whose tie to the state is ... well ... he made plenty of stops in Ann Arbor and East Lansing during his time as Indiana's longtime bench boss.
And when Knight addressed the crowd, he quickly found a way to get them to turn on him, as chronicled by Politico's Louis Nelson.
“I know I didn’t go to one of your favorite schools. I went to Ohio State instead of one of your favorite schools,” said Knight, who played in the Final Four with the Buckeyes in 1960. “I knew you’d give me that (booing), but you know we beat your ass most every time we played you.”
Knight soon got back "on message" before bringing out Trump.
Trump, meanwhile, also recognized another famous Buckeye.
"And you know we also have the endorsement of a great, great guy: Jack Nicklaus," Trump said. "You talk about winners, Jack is such a winner. Bobby is such a winner. We have so many endorsements. We have so many endorsements from such great, great winners. We love Jack.”
