NEGAUNEE, Mich. (AP) — The National Weather Service says up to about 3 feet of snow has fallen on parts of the Upper Peninsula this week.

As of Wednesday morning, 36.1 inches of snow had fallen since Monday in Marquette County near Negaunee. Generally, up to 2 feet fell in parts of the Upper Peninsula with lower totals along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
\
Meteorologist Justin Titus says the storm system that brought all that snow has moved out of the area, but lake-effect snow of 8 to 15 inches is forecast along Lake Superior through Saturday.
Titus says driving conditions are “just awful.”

Northern Michigan University also closed for a second consecutive day as a result of the snowstorm. The Marquette school says in a posting on its website that the decision to remain closed on Wednesday was made “due to inclement weather.”
Numerous schools were closed Tuesday because of the weather and dozens on Wednesday were shut or were starting classes for the day later than usual.
